Amazing that we could land men on the moon and beat the Nazis, but couldn’t accept that nothing strange happens when things are racially integrated.

Back when police were truly employed to serve and protect the people.
It all changed when policy makers realized that officers can be used as irrefutable tax collectors with a badge. Now the mission of police seems more to corral and control the populace, and extort from them. Protection is a side effect, when convenient. I am talking about policy makers, not the remaining honorable officers who do more than obeying orders.
“A Fine is a Tax for breaking the law. A Tax is a Fine for obeying the law.” - J.H. Goldfuss.
Police as tax collectors is the government initiated flip-side of the same coin that Benjamin Franklin described.
“When the people find that they can vote themselves money that will herald the end of the republic.” - Benjamin Franklin.
The government offers money as a reward for voting for the politicians pulling the strings, and then raises taxes, and raises any other revenue they can, and borrows against the future of the yet unborn (who they also give out funding to chop to pieces) to pay for the giveaways, and false solutions to purpose-generated problems.
The republic is gone. Franklin was right. A republic is answerable and accountable to the public it represents... the root words of ‘republic.’
The republic has been bloodlessly, and seamlessly overthrown by an oligarchy in it’s place, by the same people who were elected under the guise and illusion of a remaining republic. They disobey the limitations placed on the branches of government by the Constitution that *constitutes* the republic, and they violate their own oaths of office... so the effect is an oligarchy of elite rulers, not a republic of, for, and by the people.

Most days, a good helping of both.
